Censorship Group: Meeting One
Fri, 02/20/2009 - 15:20 — eroller
We met on Friday the 20th of February during class time. The members present were John, Brett, and Liz. The goal of this meeting was to specify our project proposal and look at possible solutions to the problems as well as work on the overall memo. The main issue we are focusing on is the internet censorship supported by the Chinese government which restricts access to revolutionary and movement-related issues as well as historic events that could spark revolution or dissension. We considered two possible solutions: immediate over-arching access to all information, a

Topic Proposal: Netowrking Sites Like Facebook Open the Door to Predators
Wed, 02/18/2009 - 15:13 — kjlowry
While no one ever intended to make it easy for predators to stalk, obsess over, and oftentimes meet people they shouldn't be, networking sites like Facebook have opened certain doors for predators. With easy access to cyberspace, many young, innocent people find themselves sharing too much information. Although reprehensible to imagine, there are predators out there that prey on these unsuspecting victims. With the inundation of chatrooms and social networking sites available on the internet, a new form of crime and been created as well as a new fo
Topic Proposal: Internet Censorship and Net Neutrality
Wed, 02/18/2009 - 15:01 — wmortl
Internet censorship has been quite an issue since the early days of the World Wide Web. In the early days of the Internet censorship was primarily focused on restricting access to pornographic content. This was a major issue that even spawned the Children’s Online Protection Act, which was a bill that would have forced public institutions to run content filtering software to shield inappropriate content. Today Internet censorship is a much more nuanced issue. Major telecommunication companies want the ability to treat Internet traffic differently.

Facebook privacy among your page is an issue faced. It has tried to improve its privacy, but lacks the needs of some. Privacy is needed to prevent unwanted viewers of photos, event update, or status update. People want to prevent their employer from seeing the activities outside of the job. More privacy acts should be enacted to allow only certain people to read it.

Topic Proposal: Facebook's Privacy Issues of Unwanted Viewers
Wed, 02/18/2009 - 13:45 — obrown
While Facebook has become increasingly popular as a online social network, it also welcomes the chance of privacy being invaded. Your personal information can easily be accessible to anybody even if one does not know. Despite the privacy settings, personal information about one's self or everyday life can be revealed in other ways. This flaw can introduce gossip or a Facebook "stalker" trying to know everything about you. Even faculty members of schools or employers can view your personal information if the user is not careful.

Wed, 02/18/2009 - 12:36 — hu12
The use of internet has grown remarkably in the past decades. New technologies appear ever so often. It is now unthinkable to live everyday life without the use of internet. Topic Proposal: Internet censorship and monitoring
Wed, 02/18/2009 - 10:59 — wrightj
The internet has the capability to bring free, anonymous speech to millions of people who suffer under tyrannical governments. Yet, this potential is being neglected because governments are increasinly censoring their citizens access to the internet. For the internet to reach its true potential, this censorship must be stopped or overcome.
