Individual Blog: Internet Censorship
Fri, 03/06/2009 - 23:52 — garretcd
This week I have dedicated the majority of my time to researching issues of net neutrality. The main component of my research has been the social impact and the social issues associated with NN. I have taken this to mean the affects on human action and personal freedoms as they pertain to an individuals doings. I want to focus this research on the social impact as it is seen by the governement to ensure that my research is most pointed for the white paper. I hope to have a skeleton draft of my section of the paper done by wednesday.

I have gotten pretty far on my research this week, finding a lot of information about the history of wikis.
- first wiki site, WikiWiki, created by Ward Cunningham in the 1990s
- "wiki" means "quick" in Hawaiian

This week I did some research on other whitepapers that had been done on the issue of Net Neutrality. I did research on Purdue's online repository of scholarly journals. I also gathered information regarding the new chairman of the FCC. As it turns out he is a supporter of net neutrality. I have posted journals that I had found on our Google sites page.

Facebook Group: Individual Blog 2
Fri, 03/06/2009 - 15:33 — cwithey
I have continued to do research about the usage of facebook and privacy settings. I found several informative articles on Purdue's databases. Much of my research has shown that between 40 and 50% of employers are using facebook to screen employees. Some are questioning the ethics of this and whether this violates the privacy of facebook users who are potential employees.

This week, we researched and divided and discussed what topics each group member is responsible for. We will continue researching and gathering information up until spring break. By this time, we will have enough information to put together the rough draft of the white paper.

After doing some research online and in the library I have come up with a good source of information that could be used by my group members. This article covers my section of “Proposed Solution to the Problem.” It addresses many solutions that we could use for the paper. I am also going to start looking for a graphic to put in the paper in example a picture or graph of information relative to the topics.
