This week I am finishing my research of the legality issues of media piracy. So far, the most prominent subjects within this research have been the discussion of what exactly constitutes piracy of copyrighted material through the Internet, the legitimacy of the RIAA's oft-used theory "Making Available," and the legal requirement or non-requirement of ISPs to comply with RIAA requests to notify users of suspected piracy. The detailed information from research of these subjects will inform an ISP of what action is required by law if given a request by the RIAA, and will allow an ISP to accurately and independantly evaluate whether or not media piracy has actually been committed by a user.
