Topic Proposal: Video Downloads
Mon, 02/16/2009 - 16:14 — tjlee
Rules are meant to be broken, right? No matter what movie studios do to prevent illegal downloading, there will always be someone who finds a way around it. Whether it be copying DVD's and selling them illegally for profit, or sharing digital copies online with anyone who wants them, video downloading is quickly becoming as big as a problem as music downloading. Writers, directors, actors, and studios will only see a fraction of the financial return they deserve because movies are being passed around like the common cold.

Video downloading legalization
Mon, 02/16/2009 - 16:13 — mille341
Video downloading should be legalized to download for a small fee. I know for a fact that the technology is out there. Music for example can be downloaded and as long as you are a member of the service the music will work. I believe that video download should be downloadable to view with a membership fee. To ensure that the videos are not being ripped, the copyright restrictions should be set to high so the software will not rip the movies. Tier 1 would be the introductory tier and allowed to watch the video one time for a low flat rate.

Topic Proposal: Problems with Chatrooms
Mon, 02/16/2009 - 16:13 — kmmorley
One problem with chatrooms is that it can prevent children from growing in certain social areas because they spend so much time on the computer instead of talking to people face to face. It also keeps children from wanting to go play outside and be active. Then, they do not learn to enjoy being active in order to stay healthy.

Topic Proposal: Violation of Facebook Users' Privacy
Mon, 02/16/2009 - 16:12 — ntangpra
There are undoubtedly thousands of users registered with an account on the increasingly popular social networking website, Facebook. Users of all ages can create individual profiles, post text notes, pictures, videos, and other media, as well as leave public and private messages for other users. Registered Facebook users are currently facing privacy issues, as they are finding out that potential employers, professors, and other professional figures can and sometimes do look at individual profiles.

Topic Proposal: The Unreliability of Wikis as Research Sources
Mon, 02/16/2009 - 16:11 — ashipley
Many students use internet sites as sources for research papers. Some of these websites, such as Wikipedia, can be informative but are not necessarily reliable. On this particular site, anyone that has been approved to write an article is allowed to do so. If enough people approve this article, then it is posted on the site. This becomes a problem when people post misinformation on purpose and get approved by other people as a joke. This then becomes "fact" in the eyes of the person reading the articles and can be misused in his or her paper.

Topic Proposal: Predators on Facebook/Myspace
Mon, 02/16/2009 - 16:11 — jbosserm
My topic proposal has to do with the availability of social networking websites, such as Facebook and Myspace, to everyone. The real problem boils down to unwanted users (i.e. sex offenders, child predators) having contact with children.

Topic Proposal: China's 'Great Firewall'
Mon, 02/16/2009 - 16:11 — phenke
Should Americans be angry at U.S. owned and based companies such as Microsoft and Google? Since the lead-up to the Beijing Summer Olympics it is well-known that the limits that the Chinese government puts on its citizen's internet searches are stringent and often come with punishments for being violated.
