Topic Proposal: Internet Censorship is a driving force behind the movement against personal responsibility and freedom of speech
Mon, 02/16/2009 - 17:19 — garretcd
The supporters of censorship on a global level provide yet another means for people to dissociate themselves from responsibility and for those in power to maintain absolute control. By removing the neutrality and freedom of the internet, the powers that be secure their influence over the young and impressionable web-audience. This removal of freedoms decreases a person’s civil liberties and dilutes the condition of the public opinion.

Topic Proposal: Internet Censorship: Not a Good Thing
Mon, 02/16/2009 - 17:18 — tkendall
Censoring the internet will have negative effects. The internet is a medium of communication that allows any one with access to be heard and to hear others. This allows the exchanging of ideas and information that benefits everyone. Peers can collaborate on works across the world; cultures can exchange ideas and learn from each other. Regulating or censoring this valuable medium of communication would restrict the exchange of information and hinder progress. In the United States, such censorship would violate the right of free speech.

Topic Proposal: [Free music downloads help me decide if I'll buy the album]
Mon, 02/16/2009 - 17:11 — jpohl
When I download music "illegally" I do it as more of a preview to decide whether or not I want to support the band. I use them to guage my respect for the band. I will not ever buy an album of a band that I have never heard before because that could turn out to be a horrible investment if the band is terrible. I feel like record companies should look at free music downloads more as marketing than as illegal activity worthy of legal action. I also understand more people than not do not download for the same reasons as I do.

Mon, 02/16/2009 - 17:11 — mjgrove
It has become an issue where a "Social Networking Site" have now become a sight for companies to check out future employees and even current ones, and asses if they are fit for employment.

Topic Proposal: Inappropriate amount of time spent by youth in online games.
Mon, 02/16/2009 - 17:11 — nstoops
While growing up at a time where online games have become exponentially larger and more complex, the amount of time our younger generations spend starting into imaginary computers screens has also increased exponentially. I have noticed myself and friends, at times playing these games for hours on end. I believe online games are a major contributor to the large percentages of young people and

Topic Proposal: Internet Censorship and Content Filtering
Mon, 02/16/2009 - 17:10 — Mark
If you have Comcast internet, you may have noticed that they throttle Bittorrent traffic. If you live in the Middle East (and places in the Far East), when going to a site that has speech against the ideals of the current regime, you are met with a message letting you know that they’re protecting you from dangerous people on the Internet. Internet Censorship is a fancy way to tell people what they can and cannot do with ideas and information. The fact that governments use this to control what their people think about the outside world is evidence of the problem.

Topic Proposal: Illegal Music Downloading and How It Helps Artists
Mon, 02/16/2009 - 17:09 — meoates
Illegal music downloading has been a problem around the world since the days of Napster. The majority of the complaints about downloading music illegally come directly from the artists or from the record label. The artists and record labels both claim they are losing major profits due to piracy. While the record labels lose money from sales, the artists do not lose that much. Artists make the majority of their money from appearances and performances. I believe that allowing music to be downloaded illegally helps the artists. The internet has allowed more

Topic Proposal: Some Companies take Facebook to seriously
Mon, 02/16/2009 - 17:07 — Mr. Anderson
Some Companies take Facebook too seriously. One company didn't hire somebody because they had inappropriate content. Yes it is a social network but it is also a friend gathering point where you can express yourself in many ways.

Topic Proposal: Video Downloading Online on Campus
Mon, 02/16/2009 - 17:07 — nblessin
The problem with downloading video’s online. With this being a serious offense in today’s courts and so many people getting away with this you can see how this is a problem. This is a problem with piracy as some countries duplicate videos and resell them on the black market for a profit. This can also be seen on the U.S. as people can download movies and are not punished for their actions.

Topic Proposal: Internet Censorship is hurting society
Mon, 02/16/2009 - 17:06 — sdavitt
Internet censorship has been an increasing problem in the last few years. Many more internet providers and or groups of people have been censoring the internet. I think does more harm than good. If certain people want content blocked from the internet, i do not see how it is their judgement to do so. If someone doesnt want to see something, then don't visit it or search for it. No content is being pushed on people to watch it, so why should it be banned for people who may have an interest or share that position of a website?
